We had an amazing meeting last night at East Herts Speakers. We’ve heard beautiful speeches and had creative table topics & helpful evaluations in friendly and supportive environment.

John, our president opened the meeting with warm welcome and shared his passion about Pathways and club’s target to get everyone enrolled, so far 85% of our members are enrolled on Pathways – we need to get to 100%! Our meeting continued with our Jokemaster, Donia who shared a funny story and set the fun tone for the meeting. Donia used a lot of humour and energy.

We heard four outstanding speeches. Akos spoke about her passion for life and eyes – the speech was delivered with confidence, warm smile and authenticity. In her speech Akos described the symptoms of glaucoma and treatments for the condition. Paul gave a fascinating speech on betting, he managed to describe in simple way a very complex topic. Paul captured everyone’s attention from the beginning of the speech with engaging slides, great examples and humour. Tamara completed level 1 on Pathways with beautiful speech about Mother’s Day. Tamara didn’t get breakfast in bed on the Mother’s Day but she wouldn’t have it any other way! It was an excellent speech with lots of humour and interesting facts.  Our last speaker Liz shared her life journey and compared it with a box of chocolate. Liz is very creative speaker and we could all learn from her how to perfectly write and deliver a speech!

Mariela carried out her first Table Topics session with a theme on Time Travel, five fabulous contestants took part Adrian, Stuart W., Argentina, Donia and John. All the evaluations were encouraging and inspiring from John, Mark, Stuart L., Donia and Kevin. Stuart W. counted our Ahs and Ums, as Grammarian I encouraged everyone to use the word of the day “valiant” meaning brave.  Chris did a great job keeping time and Ekong provided helpful observations and tips for people performing roles as our general evaluator. Finally, Stephen was very amusing and had a brilliant performance as Toastmaster of the evening.

Our best speaker award went to Liz, our best evaluator was Kevin and our best Table Topics speaker was Stuart W.

I cannot wait for the next meeting on 16th of April!

  • Oh I’m so sorry to have missed this meeting sounds like you had a fabulous evening but there again East Herts Speakers is an awesome TM group – I’ve just renewed my membership for the 7th year!!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed the meeting taking on the toastmaster role for the first time. It wasn’t as daunting as I thought it would be, but that was due to such a great group of TM’s. Thank you for being so kind to me, on wards and upwards and into my 2nd year already, time has flown by…… . 🙂

    • Steve, you did a great job, it is amazing how much you have developed both as a speaker and facilitator, you kept the meeting flowing, and raised the atmosphere with your humour and style. Well done.!

  • Thanks to all who contributed to another fantastic night at East Herts Speakers. Watching members participate in roles, challenging themselves and supporting each other is really inspirational. It is amazing how everyone contributes in such a possitive, collaborative and having fun throughout. Great night I am so much looking forward to the next meeting.

  • Well done for keeping a record of meetings. As a non attender my comments are the text is a bit dense & would benefit from some pictures. I disagree with the objective to get people 100% enrolled – the important step is to get them doing pathways projects. |Any one can enroll & do nothing. We need a reason to look at a particular blog post in the list. Best regards John

  • I felt transported to the meeting through your wonderful blog. Wish I was there to hear the speeches, especially Liz’s with her box of chocolates as a metaphor for life. Look forward to the next blog. Thank You. Elizabeth Jordan, Herts Speakers.
