Welcome to East Herts Speakers, I am Nina the club’s president.
I joined East Herts Speakers in 2016 with the hope to overcome my fear of public speaking. Joining Toastmasters was the greatest thing I have ever done in my life. I do remember my first speech, I was trembling with fear – oh, how far I have come! I didn’t realise how fun it will be, learning in such a supportive environment with inspiring speakers and exceptional leaders. At East Herts Speakers I didn’t only learn how to be more confident and entertaining speaker, I have also learned how to be an effective listener. Enough about myself let me tell more about East Herts Speakers club.
East Herts Speakers is an established speakers club, part of the Toastmasters International Organisation, a not for profit organisation run by its members for its members with the goal to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
We meet every 1st & 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm for 7.45pm start. We have around 30 members and we are a diverse club, with members of all ages and a variety of backgrounds. Some same as me originally joined to overcome their fear of public speaking, some to help them improve their presentation skills and some simply to improve their communication skills in both personal and professional life.
Our meetings are run by our members. The meetings are fun, friendly and supportive – the key ingredients which makes learning rewarding, exciting and enjoyable. We encourage and support each other to achieve our personal goals. At every meeting there we have prepared speeches, constructive evaluations, impromptu speaking opportunities and leadership roles. The meetings allow our members build their competence in communication, grow in confidence and gain the experience to lead others.
To gain an insight in to how East Herts Speakers can help you achieve your goals I invite you to attend one of our meetings as a guest. Meetings are free of charge to guests, there is no obligation to join or to speak at the meeting if you don’t want to. It’s your opportunity to experience how the club is run and meet some of our members. I personally guarantee that you will have a warm and friendly welcome.
