We had a wonderful meeting last night at East Herts Speakers. As always, the evening was filled with speeches, table topics, helpful evaluations and lots of fun! We also, welcomed a new member – Clint Davies.
John, our president opened the meeting with warm welcome and summary of upcoming events:
Area Contest Tuesday 12th of March at Stevenage Speakers. Our club will be represented by: Speech Contest – Kevin Baggs and Evaluations – Kevin Baggs and Donia Dimov. Venue: Shephall Community Centre, Shephall Green Stevenage SG2 9XR, Hertfordshire
Next meeting Tuesday 19th of March at East Herts Speakers we will have a special guest Elizabeth Jordan who will deliver presentation on Pathways.
Our meeting continued with inspiring quote from Paul “Perfection is the enemy of progress”. Paul was also our grammarian, with a remarkable word of the day “circumspect” meaning wary and unwilling to take risks.
We heard four excellent speeches. Melanie spoke about her childhood and early adulthood memories which helped her to become more independent in life – the speech was delivered with confidence and warm smile. Ekong gave his Pathway #1 Icebreaker, “I missed the ferry”, he captured everyone’s attention from the beginning of the speech and there was a lot of excitement and agony throughout. Donia spoke about her communication style with a lots of humour, work and home examples – it was an excellent speech. Our last speaker John shared a story of a “young officer John” from his air training corps days inspired by other officers that helped him to build the fundamentals of his leadership style.
Mark presided over his first Table Topics session with a theme on Oscars, five glamorous contestants took part Clint, Ekong, Harvey, John and Stephen.
All the evaluations were encouraging and inspiring from Liz, Tamara, Harvey and Stephen. Akos counted our Ahs and Ums and awarded the members with golden, silver and bronze medals. Adrian did a great job keeping time and Liz shared brilliant observations and helpful tips for people performing roles as our general evaluator. Stuart entertained us as Toastmaster of the evening with his authentic humorous style.
Our best speaker award went to Donia, our best evaluator was Liz and our best Table Topics speaker was Clint.
Last night we all took roles, we all practiced our speaking skills and we all had fun. I cannot wait for the next meeting on 19th of March!
