We had a fantastic meeting last night at East Herts Speakers. As always, the evening was full of great speeches, amusing table topics, lovely evaluations and special guests. We had two guests John Kendall and Vimbai. We also welcomed one new member to our club Andy, who has volunteered to take a role at his first meeting as a member. Andy did a great job as a timekeeper and kept us all on time.
Anna, our quotemaster prepared at very last minute a wonderful quote and encouraged everyone to achieve the impossible because “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’”! We continued the evening with prepared speeches, my speech was about a brief history of British holidays and how we might be holidaying in the future. Fiona delivered a thought provoking speech about “International coffee day” with energy and enthusiasm. Finally, John entertained us with a speech full of personal leadership stories and insight into selection of his Toastmaster path.
The evaluations were as supportive and helpful as we have come to expect from Liz, Mariela, Chris and Stuart. Stephen was our grammarian with a great word of the day “composed” and Maria counted our Ahs and Ums. Rebecca hosted an amusing table topics session with questions inspired by a theatre play – 5 participants took part John K, Vimbai, Paul, Maria and Andy. Tamara provided humorous and helpful tips for people performing roles as a general evaluator. Donia our Toastmaster of the evening was brilliant as always.
Our best speaker award went to John, our best evaluator was Chris and our best table topics speaker was Paul.
We achieved a lot in just a couple of hours (and of course the opportunity to socialise afterwards).
- Our next meeting on Tuesday 15th October will be very special. Bob Ferguson the winner of UK & Ireland Evaluation contest will be leading a workshop on ‘Evaluation’ at our club! It is great opportunity to learn how to evaluate a speech and provide great feedback.
- GSK pharmaceutical based in Ware is planning to open a corporate Toastmasters club. Their demo meeting will be held 16th of October at lunchtime 12.00-13.00. If you are interested to join or support please contact John Kendall at [email protected]
- Additionally, our Area 20 contest will take place on Monday 21st of October at Hatfield, Hertfordshire speakers club. Arrive at 19.15 for 19:30 start. Venue: Oxlease House Travellers Lane Hatfield Hertfordshire AL10 8TJ. It is expected to be a fantastic evening and great opportunity to lean from the best in our area, get inspired and of course cheer for our contestants.
